Based in Tempe, Arizona, FlipFuel was founded in 2021 by Eric Flottmann and Frank Healy, two local backpackers and outdoor enthusiasts turned entrepreneurs. Combining their passion for technology with their love of the outdoors, they created FlipFuel to offer a simple solution for hikers and campers: consolidating partially filled fuel containers and recycling the empties.
Eric Flottmann is an Arizona adventure-seeker and entrepreneur, known for his explorations of the desert's most iconic trails, including Aravaipa Canyon and the Grand Canyon. One of his recent favourite adventures was a backpacking trip with his son in the West Clear Creek Wilderness of the Coconino National Forest. Eric has also ventured to the Enchantments in Washington, trekked through Glacier National Park, and explored the twisty terrain of Joshua Tree National Park.
Beyond his personal adventures, Eric is a dedicated leader in both the outdoors and business. He teaches outdoor skills to young scouts, including his two children, as a leader for Scouts BSA and the Girl Scouts of the USA.
Frank Healy, a true Arizona native, grew up in Globe, east of Phoenix. Globe is known for its prehistoric Native American ruins and mining history, nestled within the Superstition and Pinal Mountain ranges. Frank's childhood backyard was a desert habitat filled with coyotes, skunks, snakes, tarantulas, and Gila monsters.
With deep family roots in Arizona, Frank's grandfather lived in the state before it was even officially recognised, and his entrepreneurial spirit inspired Frank to follow a similar path. Frank has developed several successful technology companies in Arizona, with FlipFuel being his first venture that combines his entrepreneurial skills with his love of travel.
FlipFuel aims to enhance the outdoor experience by addressing the common problem of managing fuel canisters.
