The Race Elite™ 25 is an extreme lightweight pack specifically for adventure racers and lightweight walkers wanting something they can scrunch down to stash, but big enough to use practically when they need to.
I used mine during the 2009 OMM and it was just right for the chosen contents, which consisted of half a Lightwave Tent, a Rab 400 bag, a short Neo Air, Liv Jacket, first aid, food, cooker and pot, plus poles and pegs. Yes a tight fit, but with the right lightweight compression sacks I still had space to spare.
The pockets were perfect for food and extras during the day, and the interesting open pocket one side and zipped pocket the other, worked very well for balancing the water filter and hat, gloves etc.
The one thing extra I did add, which proved enormously helpful was a pair of velcro straps we sell on the site, placed through the two tabs at the top of the bag. This enabled me to strap on securely my Halo jacket and know it would still be there later. A simple but effective solution as there is nowhere to attach clothing on the streamlined outer.
The single cord compression system appears at first to be a bit flimsy, however a good tug and it soon stabilized the contents and nothing moved. perfect for when you are running.
The biggest selling point on this pack for me is the back length of 21 inches, which makes this far more comfortable for taller people like myself, who often find the waist belt of 'traditional sized' racing packs to riding up around the stomach and getting in the way.
You have to work hard to get your down to 25lt, but it can be done and once you are used to this reduction in capacity anything else just seems huge!
