  Safety and First Aid

From the Scottish Highlands to the Dead Sea, wise backpackers never leave home without a fist aid kit. If left untreated a slight scratch or dodgy tummy can turn the trip of a lifetime into a nightmare of discomfort.
But like everything else, take advice, better still take a course, and only have with you what you actually need.

  Preparation and planning:

We are not qualified to give medical advice here, only practical advice.

It is no use having a First Aid Kit, Emergency Whistle, Bivvi Bag or any other equipment in your rucksack if you don’t know how to use it.

There are many things that a First Aid Kit do not include – skills for resuscitation, treatments for shock, heart attacks, burns, fractures, hypothermia to name but a few, which we hope you never have to experience.

But if you do, isn’t it better to be calm and know what to do, rather than panic and put yours or others lives at risk?

So, if the outdoor life is new to you, please enrol in a Mountain Safety and First Aid course. There are many advertised in the back of magazines, and the cost is long forgotten, while the skills and confidence remain.

It is better to know it
and not need it,
than need it
and not know it!
