Visitors to this page might be a bit confused with the recent changes, however please let me explan.
We started the backpackinglight series of podcasts way back in 2005 and produced almost 150 by the end of 2007. At which time they had become so popular that we started The Outdoors Station as a central audio and video resource for self powered outdoors enthusiasts, as we wanted to incorporate other aspects of outdoor life, which may not come under the normal BPL activities.
However as it is impossible to transfer those podcasts across we kept the BPL Archive live and they can be found on this site here. You'll notice that we've incorporated a new 'search' facility, so just type in what you are looking for. If you still wish to download the lot as an iTunes user click here. For those wanting the XML feed please copy and paste this into your podcatching software. NEW FEED Jan 10(http://toc.hipcast.com/rss/podcasts.xml)
So now we have The Outdoors Station, where since the beginning of 2008 we place all our new BPL podcasts and any sponsored ones. These podcasts consist of both Audio and Video and content and the listing can be found on the backpackinglight website here and here. We have also created a TV page for faster viewing and that can be found here.
For those iTunes users wanting to automatically keep abreast of our releases, please click here for the audio feed and here for the video feed.
Those wanting the manual XML feed for audio please copy and paste this into your podcatching software (http://toc.hipcast.com/rss/audio2.xml) and the video (http://toc.hipcast.com/rss/video.xml).
Again you will notice that you are now able to search the listing on this site on both of those feeds. So just type in your chosen interest such as 'TGO, or MSR or Tarp' and any related podcasts with that in the description should appear.
Simply click to hear them right away or right click and save them to your desktop (renaming them on the way).
It isn't as complicated as I've made it sound, but I just wanted to simplify the whole process from my point of view so it became more automated, as I have less and less time to update the various pages, and I really want to get on with producing more free content for our 1,000,000+ listeners who are downloading over 3000 podcasts a day!
Please email me if there's anything needing clarification in this section.
Thanks
Bob

What is 'podcasting'? A 'podcast' is simply an audio recording stored as a small amount of data in MP3 format. This can be music, a radio program or any audio interview etc. All 'podcasts' are FREE.
How do I listen to it? Just click the 'download' button and the files will be transferred to your machine one at a time. Then 'double click' the file and it will play on your PC speakers with software which is already installed within your computer. However 'subscribing' is easier (see below) using iTunes software which is FREE (PC and Mac). This keeps things in a nice simple library format.
Can I listen to it on an Audio CD? From within iTunes you can burn a CD in audio format which will play on any normal CD player.
Can I listen to it on any MP3 player? Yes. Simply drag the file to your MP3 Player folder when it is plugged in and it will be available to you. In the case of iPods etc, they work in sync with iTunes, which makes transferring files easier still.
How do I subscribe to all your 'podcasts'? Using iTunes for example, you click on 'music store', then the 'advanced tab' and 'subscribe to podcast' and you need to enter the web address shown opposite into the space provided This will automatically take you to the Backpackinglight Podcast Directory and all the available interviews.
Do I have to do this every time I want to hear something new? Not at all. The next time you open iTunes, just go to your podcast directory and click the 'update' button and any new releases will be seen in the listing. Just 'click' on the ones you want to hear.
And all this is free? Yes of course. We want to encourage as many as we can to enjoy the great outdoors and we feel this is an stimulating way of doing it. Sometimes hearing what others are doing inspires us. Hints and tips can help us and listening to some of the people behind products or ideas give us more of an understanding of that company. So why not?
Is anyone else doing 'podcasts' about the outdoors? Yes a handful of other American producers are outputting material like this, but quality and content are varied. In iTunes, click the 'podcast' section and then search using any associated words. It's as easy as that!
